Striped Bass Fishing
The Roanoke River is considered by many fishermen to be one of the best
fishing destinations anywhere, especially for striped bass (Rockfish.)
The spring Rockfish run on the Roanoke River begins in mid March and goes to
mid June with catches of 80 to 100 fish not unusual. At one time
rockfish populations had dwindled down to low levels, but conservation
measures were applied, and now they are back in plentiful supply.
Recently, the Atlantic States Marine Fishery Commission declared the striped
bass in the Atlantic Coastal areas to be a "fully recovered species."
Good news for the rockfish, and good news for us who love to fish!
